How you can feel in CONTROL, CONFIDENT and CALM while struggling to fall pregnant, in just 30 minutes a day.

Dec 15, 2020

Let’s face it, life is stressful enough at the moment without adding infertility stress to the mix.

After a while, infertility starts to infiltrate every corner of your life. Not just your day, which can be filled with doctors’ appointments, researching magic cures and taking supplements. It also takes up valuable real estate in your mind. It’s the first thing you think of when you wake, and the last thing you dream about before you close your eyes.

THE most frustrating thing about trying to fall pregnant and not being able to is the fact that you can do ALL the things they tell you to, and still end up with a negative result.

Unexplained Infertility means feeling helpless, powerless and out of control.

I felt the full brunt of unexplained infertility for 7 years. As a Type A personality with a side of control-freak, it threw me. I was raised to believe that hard work equals results. But the harder I “worked” at falling pregnant, the further it moved away (or so it seemed).

In the world of uncertainty in my trying to conceive (ttc) journey, I craved CONTROL.

Infertility also has the power to strip you of your dignity. Not only are you showing your lady bits to doctors on sometimes a daily basis, but your conversations revolve around your cycle, discharge and parts of your personal life that should remain…..well private.

Not only that but because the path to pregnancy is so uncertain, you have no idea what to do next. IVF, IUI, donor eggs, surrogacy. You want a baby, but which option do you choose? Do you do IUI for another cycle or move straight to IVF. If you get it wrong, it means another month gone, another $10,000 down the drain, and another heartbreak.

Before infertility, I was a confident person. I knew what I wanted, I had dreams, I had a perfect picture in my head, I knew if I worked hard enough, I could get it. But once I went down the assisted fertility path, I lost it. I questioned everything, including WHO I was.

Having no answers and no end in sight makes it impossible to feel confident about anything.

I craved CERTAINTY.

And STRESS?? When you’re told that stress impacts your ability to conceive it adds an additional level. You find yourself stressing over being stressed!!

I craved CALM.

From the negative thoughts in my head, from the anger at people falling pregnant around me, and the fear of this not working.

If only I knew then what I know now.

That in 30 minutes each day I could claim back the control, confidence and calm that I so desperately craved.

So, what’s the secret?

A MORNING ROUTINE.

Well, it’s not so secret, but we usually dismiss it as bulls*t or say we don’t have time (which is also bulls*t).

How we start our day is SO important.

Firstly, it sets the tone for the rest of your day………

Ever had one of those days where you sleep through the alarm, spill toothpaste down your work shirt, realise there isn’t any milk for your morning coffee, get stuck in a traffic jam, and get to work late? From there the shit storm continues and your day goes from bad to worse.

That was me too. I’d wake up feeling tired, get dressed, grab breakfast on the run and eat it in my car on my way to work. When I got to work, my office was a revolving door of people wanting things and unrealistic deadlines. By the time I left for the day I was absolutely exhausted and drained.

How you start your day is how it continues. If you’re rushed and stressed in the morning, you’ll be rushed and stressed for the rest of the day. Always behind the eight ball. But if you take control to begin with, you’ll be in front and more in control of the choices you make throughout the day.

The ritual nature of a morning routine also signals to the brain to prepare for success. This means your confidence will carry over into all other tasks that come up.

Secondly, it ensures you dedicate the first part of your day to YOU…….

Choosing YOU is an important part of feeling loved and worthy. Putting yourself first means filling up your own cup (remember, you can’t pour from an empty jug) before pouring into others. It energises you. Because you can’t be brave if you’re tired, and for those impacted by infertility, you need courage and resilience in bucket loads.

And lastly, your willpower is stronger in the morning. So, this is the best time to do something that would normally be pushed down to the bottom of your priority list (like things for YOU).

So now you know WHY it’s so important……..HOW do you create a morning routine that you love and has you bouncing out of bed in the morning (yes, it is possible)?

It’s simple really.

Your morning routine should include 3 components -

(1) Mindset & Personal Development - gratitude, journaling, meditation, review goals, setting intentions, reading a book, listening to a podcast.

(2) Fitness & Movement - Pilates, yoga, stretching, workout, gym session, walking, running, swimming.

(3) Healthy Breakfast – a warm nourishing breakfast is best.

It can be completely flexible as long as you tick all three boxes each morning. Each component should make you feel amazing either during or after. It should make you say mmmmmmm.

In 30 minutes a day you can gain back control, confidence and calm while trying to conceive.

This is one of my favourite things to create with my clients, and has the greatest impact on their journey.
